Katie Cuthbert

Owner & Garden Designer

Katie Cuthbert is an experienced plantswoman, an insect-lover, and the owner of Mountain & Meadow Garden Design. With a BA in Environmental Studies from Skidmore College and Certificates of Horticulture and Invasive Plant Management from the state of Rhode Island, she brings a deep understanding for sustainability and ecology to her work. She began her career in 2016 as a garden educator and program coordinator at The Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm and later for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. In 2020, she transitioned her focus to fine gardening full-time and has worked with clients in both the Hudson Valley and coastal Rhode Island. Her designs blend the romance of English gardens with the wildness of United States native meadow and forestscapes. She specializes in native plants.

Shannon Cuthbert

Garden Designer & Artist

Shannon Cuthbert is an accomplished visual artist and designer, and the sister of owner Katie Cuthbert. The two sisters have been collaborators since 2021. As a lifelong nature lover, Shannon has been capturing the natural world through landscape paintings and botanical drawing since she was a child. She renders all designs by hand in watercolor and colored pencil.

Mountain & Meadow Garden Design is a growing fine gardening and design studio based in Greene County, NY. We specialize in organic and ecologically-focused gardens, using a mix of native plants and ornamentals to design, install, and maintain vibrant flower and vegetable gardens, meadows, and woodland landscapes. Our approach blends artistry, aesthetics, and environmental stewardship.

Position Overview

We are a dedicated and talented team of gardeners. As part of our crew, you will have the opportunity to learn and hone your skills in the field while maintaining beautiful gardens. We are seeking candidates who wish to grow a career within the horticultural industry, and who are passionate about sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time, prepared for each shift with tools, water and lunch
  • Install and maintain gardens at private residencies throughout the Hudson Valley
  • Perform regular garden care: planting, dividing, weeding, mulching, pruning, deadheading, watering, and more
  • Monitor plant health and identify potential pest or disease issues
  • Work both collaboratively with team members, and also independently at times
  • Receive and apply feedback with a mindset of continuous learning and growth
  • Adapt to changing schedules due to weather and seasonal demands
  • Refer to the staff handbook as needed for workplace policies and protocols

What We're Looking For

  • Desire to expand horticultural knowledge
  • Passion for plants, the environment, and sustainable gardening practice
  • Some prior experience or familiarity with plants and gardening preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform strenuous physical work in all weather conditions
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to job sites (within approx. 30 miles of Catskill, NY)
  • Dependable, punctual, and hard-working
  • Positive attitude and energetic disposition
  • Comfortable taking instruction and asking questions when needed
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and committed to maintaining high standards of professionalism and quality on high-end properties

Compensation & Schedule

Pay: $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience

Availability: Part-time positions available
